In the beginning of the semester many bought secondhand furniture, which left our shop quite empty. After a test-period in spring, we are now happy to announce our collaboration with Erikshjälpen Linköping.
We said yes! The test-period was found successful and we decided that we want to continue the collaboration with Erikshjälpen Linköping to bring more sustainable secondhand furniture close to you!
We are very excited about this and so is Richard, the store manager of Erikshjälpen Linköping. We asked him what he thinks of the collaboration with LiU Student Secondhand, and he answered: “It is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with Navitas as both our organizations care about sustainability and how we can make use of Earth's resources in the best possible way.”
How secondhand stores contribute to sustainability is quite obvious, but in Richard's eyes Erikshjälpen contributes to more than just that: They create hope!
'A secondhand!? How do they create hope?' you might ask yourself... But listen to Richard tell us more about Erikshjälpen, their mission and work, and you'll understand!
"Erikshjälpen is a children's rights organization with a non-profit second-hand business. We work to fight poverty and vulnerability by realizing children's rights through projects both in Sweden and internationally, and build on a common vision: A changed world where children’s dreams come to life.
Erikshjälpen Second Hand is based on three missions: creating surplus, the environmental & the social mission. By collecting, sorting and selling gifts that have been donated to us for reuse, we work to generate surplus for the above mentioned social and humanitarian efforts and projects. Reusing resources that already exist creates of course also great environmental and climate benefits. Apart from that, we only serve fairtrade coffee and tea in our café and as much organic coffee as possible. We use eco-labeled cleaning products to prevent the release of environmentally harmful chemicals and we try to reduce our energy consumption. Last but not least, a large diversity of people are involved in internships, job training and volunteering in our operations. The job training in our second hand stores gives many people a chance to get closer to the labor market, and creates faith in the future for children with parents who have been unemployed for a long time.
For us, contributing to a more sustainable society is important at all levels. In the store in Linköping, many people are contributing to these three missions together. Thus, we create hope & sustainability!"
How awesome isn’t that? Talking bout triple-bottom-line, they really get the full picture of what it means to be and work with sustainability! And the best? If you buy one of their items at LSSh, you'll send the money via Swish directly to Erikshjälpen.
So check out our shop to scroll through the newly arrived items we got from them!
Your actions (and purchases) can make a difference!
